Welcome!

This site shows the finalized works that I have completed in the course ENGL 21007: Writing for Engineering. In this course, I learned how to write papers outside of “traditional” English essays, through assignments geared toward the engineering field.

The Lab Report Analysis Essay was a compare and contrast essay. I compared the structures of two lab reports focused on engineering, focusing closely on each lab report component. In this essay, I analyzed why the authors chose to use the specific structure that they did and explained why they strayed away from traditional lab report structures, to better explain and display their research.

The Technical Description is a breakdown of the parts of a cassette tape. I explain the purpose of each part and how those components work together to make the cassette tape functional in a cassette player. Here, I used pictures and diagrams to assist in explaining how this device works.

The Engineering Proposal was a group project, in which we designed a device, explained why this device was needed, wrote a technical description for the device, and researched the estimated cost of the product. In this assignment, I learned to work and write collaboratively, while also improving upon the technical writing skills I already had. This assignment also had an oral presentation component, that gave me the chance to effectively present my ideas verbally to an audience.

The Self-Assessment Essay explores my development as a writer. I discuss how I met the course learning objectives, as well as how my perception of writing in the scientific field has altered. I explore how each of the assignments helped me to develop new analysis, research, and writing skills.
